Reach-In Cooler Repair Project in Antioch, IL
Legacy Refrigeration recently addressed a service call in Antioch, IL, regarding a Norlake reach-in cooler that was not cooling below 70°F. Upon arrival, we inspected the system for functionality and found that the unit was not cooling as expected while the compressor was operational.
After checking the system pressures, we discovered the system was empty of refrigerant, indicating a potential leak. To locate the source of the leak, we added a trace refrigerant charge to the system and began performing a leak check using our H10 infrared refrigerant detection system.
As we swept through the copper line set, we detected traces of the leak within the reach-in cooler. After carefully inspecting the system, we pinpointed the micro leak to the evaporator coil. We discussed the repair and replacement options with the client, and it was decided that we would first attempt to add a leak sealer to the system as a temporary solution to seal the leak. We then replenished the refrigerant to restore functionality.
Following this, we vacuumed the system to 500 microns and recharged it with a factory-recommended weight of 12oz of R134 refrigerant. The system quickly returned to normal operation, satisfying at a stable 34°F.
